Learning Sign Language

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

I lately made a pledge to work on improving numerous sides of my life to become a more well rounded person. After lots of consideration, I made a decision that I want to learn sign language, so I latterly acquired materials which will help me do that.

I have been telling my loved ones about my new interest, and the 1st question everybody asks me is why I would like to learn sign language. In fact, I am not deaf or hard-of-hearing myself, neither is any one in my immediate family. While hearing impairments would glaringly be the most pressing reason to learn sign language, it’s definitely not the sole one. Here are only 2 more reasons that helped me make my call. I usually hear about mates who are studying Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese or any quantity of other languages, but none of those appealed to me. I would rather learn Yankee Sign Language ( ASL ) due to its relative uniqueness. 2nd , I need to learn sign language due to its application. I’m able to say with certainty that I could have an opportunity to use my ASL abilities at some point in my life. Once I made up my mind to learn sign language, I just had to discover a class that I could attend. Since my work hours are constantly changing, I had no desire to commit to categorical evening or weekend hours at my local community school. Instead, I chose to check out a couple of the numerous online resources that are available to folks with an interest in ASL. I found many classes that are delivered wholly over the Net, as well as many more courses that are offered on video ( or DVD ). I will see precisely what is going on on, and can replay certain sections as many times as obligatory to make certain I understand everything.

I have only been studying ASL for a pair weeks now, but I am already making fast progress.

I can not wait to keep going with my courses and develop my talents even more.
